Rookie Blue was renewed by Global and ABC.

General Hospital moves to 2pm Eastern / 1pm Central on September 10, opening up the 3pm hour for local programming, as expected. It already airs at 2pm in the Pacific and Central time zones. Katie Couric's new show will be taking the 4pm hour of most ABC affiliates this Fall, displacing the current 4pm programs.

NBC Sports signed a deal to air the Tour de France through 2023.

NewsCorp wants to cast off its newspapers and books as a separate company, though the Murdochs would reportedly retain 40% of each corporation. The move was prompted by the U.K. phone hacking scandal that Americans aren't interested in.

CNN got some advice from the New York Times TV section: show the news and don't compete with the demagogues. "As viewers, we hew toward picking sides in news programming because it creates the illusion not just of import and drama, but that someone is at fault and things can be fixed. " CNN is down at its worst numbers in twenty years.

A report commissioned by Congress states that PBS and NPR could not be sustained by more advertising.

On July 30, The NFL Network will start up a morning show, for those Americans who need football news at 6 A.M.

CNN got some advice from the New York Times TV section: show the news and don't compete with the demagogues. "As viewers, we hew toward picking sides in news programming because it creates the illusion not just of import and drama, but that someone is at fault and things can be fixed. "

Finally, WWE has come back to broadcast television, this time on family-friendly ION. WWE Main Event, a weekly hour similar to what WGN Superstars had been, will debut in October, and air on Wednesdays.

Boston.com will start an internet radio rock station for some reason.

Factoid of the Day: "...1982's "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" played 54 times last year on VH1 Classics."

Maury, The Jerry Springer Show and The Steve Wilkos Show were renewed by NBCU through 2016.

Bone marrow donation doesn't require a needle into the bone anymore, just a needle into the vein like a normal blood donation, according to Thursday night's NBC Nightly News.

Yvette Wilson died.

ABC's Glass House will debut as scheduled on Monday at 10pm. CBS will continue its lawsuit. (As always, Deadline will fix the error you point out, but not publish your comment.)

The My Network TV affiliate in Idaho Falls, KXPI, will become a FOX affiliate, and push the My Network shows to 10pm. FOX-less KFXP will pick up This TV.

Excuse of the Day
Thursday marked the second week of Fox's new reality series "Take Me Out" and "The Choice." Both fell from their debuts, likely losing viewers to the NBA game.

Showtime's Weeds will end after next season.

CNN canceled John King USA, and the show will leave the airwaves on June 29. A THIRD(?!!) hour of Wolf Blitzer's Situation Room will take its 6pm weekday slot on July 2.

The Stanley Cup Finals averaged 3 million viewers in America; last year's Final averaged 4.5 million. Ratings for the other playoff rounds were up significantly.

A dingo DID eat her baby.

Excuse of the Day

The viewer drop-off on "Talent" was clearly because of competition from the NBA Finals game and a mediocre lead-in of "American Ninja Warrior" (1.6/5, 4.9m).

ABC INSISTS IT'S BETTER THAN NBC

ABC wants credit for C+7 numbers, saying it's tied with NBC for 3rd place with a 2.5 average in the 18-49 demo for the 2011-2012 TV season. "Factoring out all sports programming from the season averages, ABC’s [C+7} advantage over NBC jumped to 25% (2.5/7 vs. 2.0/6)."

HORSE REPLACED IN RACE BY SIMILAR LOOKING HORSE

No Triple Crown this year. NBC can't catch a break this Summer. The Stanley Cup Finals are a bust. Howard Stern hasn't boosted the ratings of America's Got Talent. Now the horse that won two of the Triple Crown races, I'll Have Another, has been scratched from the third race because of a swollen tendon. There's still the Olympics, which will lose money, but will hopefully promote the Fall lineup.

Body of Proof is changing, in order to keep its budget tight.

The Teen Titans will return with a new series, next year on Cartoon Network.
