Programming Notes

Anderson Cooper finally came out of the closet. As Gawker's Nick Denton said, "it’s now more embarrassing to remain in the closet than it is to come out."

HBO renewed Eastbound & Down out of the blue for eight episodes. It had what seemed to be a series finale in February April, after an informal announcement at PaleyFest 2011 that the show was ending, but HBO never confirmed the news. HBO also renewed True Blood and The Newsroom.

The CW will rent its Kids block to Saban starting now, as the previous lessee, 4Kids, went bankrupt.

NBC Sports Network renewed Fight Night. Anywhere from 6 to 16 new Fight Night telecasts will air in each of the next two years. NBC will take one or two next season, and air one that has been added to the current season, on Saturday, December 22, at 4pm-6pm EST. Fight Night 36 has also been renewed for a second season. Sports Illustrated has gotten back into the television racket, this time partnering with NBC Sports Network for a monthly series.

G4 will start airing Lost reruns in order on Monday, July 16. Check your listings because your cable company may have dropped the channel due to lack of interest.

CMT acquired rerun rights to Reba, which leaves Lifetime, and Yes, Dear, which leaves TBS.

FX bought the rights to Ted.

Excuse Exclusion of the Day

Excluding sports, the net was the No. 1 broadcaster in 18-49 with these animated shows from 8 to 10.
