Simulcasts in a few East coast cities. Approximately 30 stations began operating in 1948, bringing the total to over 40. NBC begins a 10-minute newscast, Camel Newsreel Theatre, that uses newsreels from Fox Movietone News on February 16, 1948.

DuMont: The Origianl Amateur Hour began in midseason.


Meet the Press debuts November 6. The Original Amateur Hour debuts on January 18, 1948, and would run until September 27, 1970, switching networks six times. The Ed Sullivan Show debuts on June 20, 1948, and would run until June 6, 1971. CBS starts a newscast on August 14, 1948.
