1961-62

The vast wasteland becomes a little less vast-- for two seasons, as numerous public affairs programs appear and disappear from primetime by 1964.

Dick Van Dyke and Bob Newhart arrive. Steve Allen moves to ABC. NBC schedules a regular movie, having paid Fox $25 million to air fifty of its movies. The nets try animated primetime shows after last season's successful debut of The Flintstones.
